Scheme of manoeuvre

This will be achieved through sequencing the following phases:

1. Shaping Phase

The following phase will create the foundations on which the programme can be built:

Forces Charity Engagement. SUPPORT Jiu-Jitsu Foundation will liaise with Forces Charities and Charities supporting Emergency Services across the length and breadth of the country and identify opportunities for introductory Jiu-jitsu classes within their existing programmes.

Starter Sessions. A combination of Serving and Non-Serving instructors will run a minimum of a monthly session, but will aspire to weekly sessions. This will provide an opportunity for beneficiaries undergoing treatment to make an informed assessment on whether Jiu-jitsu is something they would wish to pursue upon completion of their treatment.

Pool of Beneficiaries. Those that wish to continue their Jiu-jitsu journey will be entered onto a database, which will identify a reputable club close to their residential address.

2. Decisive Phase

This phase is pivotal to the success of the programme as it removes the financial burden on the Beneficiary, while initiating and monitoring their Jiu-jitsu journey:

Equipping the Beneficiary.  The Foundations sponsors will provide 2x Kimonos (Gi) and 2x No-Gi uniforms to the Beneficiary.

Instructor to Athlete Introduction. The Foundation will coordinate an introductory meeting between the Beneficiary and the Instructor. This will create positive relationship prior to attending the first session and will go some way to remove anxiety and promote a feeling of welcoming even before they attend their first class.

Funding Training. The Foundation will provide ‘cost-capped annual funding that will cover unlimited group classes and weekly one-to-one training sessions with a Black Belt instructor. It will also include quarterly classes with World renowned instructors.

3. Protecting Phase

This phase applies specific control measures to ensure we prevent the beneficiary and the Foundation from being exploited or damaged.

Vetting Clubs. All clubs will be vetted in the following ways:

  • DBS Check. They will required to be Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked (previously CRB). This will reduce the possibility of exposing either ourselves or our people to those with a criminal background who could damage the Foundation ether physically or reputational.

  • IBJJF Black Belt. The club will have to be run by a Black Belt Instructor (dispensation will be possible for Brown Belts on a case by case basis) who is registered with the International Brazilian Jiujutsu Federation (IBJJF).

  • Initial Interview. They will be required to be interviewed by a senior member of the ‘SUPPORT Board’ to assess if they are suitable to be given Approved Status by the Foundation.

  • Quarterly Appraisals. The Foundation will review the progress of the Beneficiary and the Instructor on a quarterly basis. This will ensure that the beneficiary is attending classes and developing at the correct level and the instructor is meeting his contractual obligations to the Foundation.

Insurance. The Foundation will ensure that the club and instructor have the correct insurances in place and will also apply for and fund the personal liability insurance for the Beneficiary.
